Getting it wrong is a common cause of premature failure.<\/p>\n<h2>Common choices<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Cast iron<\/strong> is the standard body material for clean cold-water duty &mdash; robust and economical.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stainless steel<\/strong> is used where corrosion resistance matters: treated or desalinated water, food and pharmaceutical applications, and mildly aggressive liquids. Several Niagara families, including the CM(S) and CHL series, are offered in stainless steel construction.<\/p>\n<p><strong>High-chrome and wear-resistant alloys<\/strong> are used where sand or solids would erode a standard impeller, such as borehole and wastewater duty.<\/p>\n<h2>Seals and elastomers matter too<\/h2>\n<p>The mechanical seal and O-ring materials must suit both the liquid and its temperature.
