What materials are Niagara pumps and valves made from?

Material selection is driven by what is being pumped, at what temperature, and how abrasive or corrosive it is. Getting it wrong is a common cause of premature failure.

Common choices

Cast iron is the standard body material for clean cold-water duty — robust and economical.

Stainless steel is used where corrosion resistance matters: treated or desalinated water, food and pharmaceutical applications, and mildly aggressive liquids. Several Niagara families, including the CM(S) and CHL series, are offered in stainless steel construction.

High-chrome and wear-resistant alloys are used where sand or solids would erode a standard impeller, such as borehole and wastewater duty.

Seals and elastomers matter too

The mechanical seal and O-ring materials must suit both the liquid and its temperature. Reviewing them is as important as choosing the body material.
